FAQ

Q: Does the price change if my inventory changes?

A:Our guaranteed price is based on your inventory list. If the inventory changes, it is your responsibility to contact your sales rep and adjust the agreement to reflect the updated inventory. The inventory should be finalized two business days before the move.

Q: How is FlatRate different from other companies?

A: FlatRate aims to avoid the kind of nasty surprises some people associate with moving. We do this by offering customers a guaranteed price based on their inventory, so they will know exactly what's due on the day of their move. This guaranteed price encourages salespeople to gather a comprehensive inventory and encourages the customer to be thorough when providing their own inventory. When a company does not guarantee its price, there is no incentive for the moving company to gather a comprehensive inventory and its adjusted price is often much higher than its original quote.

Q: Why should I go with FlatRate when an hourly rate company gave me an estimate 15 percent lower?

A: If the hourly rate company is unable to guarantee that price, there is a good chance that its price is non-binding. Often that estimate fluctuates - usually upward.

Q: It says you provide wardrobe boxes for the duration of the move free of charge. Does that mean it is free to move a wardrobe box?

A: FlatRate will provide a box on the day of the move at no extra charge. However, FlatRate still charges to move those items as part of your inventory list.

Q: Are packing and the boxes included in the price?

A: FlatRate only offers packing and materials for specific items such as lamps, wardrobe boxes, electronics, and pictures-and, of course, quilting and securing the furniture. We offer packing services and sell boxes at an additional cost. For a full packing offer, we recommend a free, on-site estimate.

Q: When my friends did my last move, it took the same amount of time-or less-than FlatRate is estimating. Shouldn't FlatRate be faster?

A: FlatRate is a professional moving company, and therefore insists on safety and caution. For example: Our professionals carefully quilt and secure your furniture before putting it on the truck in order to minimize damage. That attention to detail adds time.

Q: Is your company licensed?

A: We are a fully licensed company, regulated by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT-T32557). Our interstate/long distance moving is licensed and regulated by the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC MC-254356). Our storage is licensed by the Department of Consumer Affairs (DOCA-0910599), which is responsible for supervising storage warehousing in New York City. We are also members of the Better Business Bureau. In fact, FlatRate is in the top 5 percent of companies with the lowest number of BBB complaints. For more information, please call the BBB at 212.533.6200. Or check out our company at BBB.org

Q: How much will my move cost?

A: FlatRate system offers customers an all-inclusive guaranteed, one-price move. A FlatRate Relocation Consultant will give you an estimate based on your inventory, which will then become your actual bill. There are no hidden fees tacked on your bill afterward. No more worrying about nasty surprises.

Q: Is there an additional charge for travel time while moving?

A: There is no additional charge for travel to or from your destination, and no charge for tolls.

Q: How long does a typical move take?

A: With FlatRate's guaranteed pricing, there is no incentive for the movers to prolong the move, nor is there an additional charge if it takes longer than expected.

Why choose FlatRate over any other company in New York City when you're looking to move home or office?

Well, for starters - as our name suggests - you'll be given a cost that won't increase as your move progresses (provided your inventory stays the same of course). You'll be provided with an easy-to-understand Move Plan which will detail every stage of your relocation so that you'll know exactly what's happening and when. We can always personalize this to suit your individual needs.

We strive for excellent customer services and always put our customer's needs first - just check out any of our reviews on sites such as Yelp! as you'll see that's exactly the case. You may also note that we have six locations in the biggest cities in the US, have an office in London, and association storage facilities in 160 outlets around the globe.

We complete more than 2,000 moves every month - which makes us one of the city's largest moving companies. That wouldn't be the case if we weren't capable of providing a top notch service. Most of our customers have been recommended by family and friends - a fact we're very proud of here at FlatRate.
