Moving Tip: Install Linings in Kitchen Cabinets ASAP
So you are changing coasts – good for you! Experienced and reputable cross country movers can help your belongs arrive without a scratch, but once that truck pulls away from your new home, you are on your own. Many people choose to unpack the kitchen items first.
Once you move in and start unpacking your pots and pans, plates and utensils, food and drinks you can quickly fill up the cupboards and miss a chance to get them looking exactly how you’ll want them to look for the next few years. Instead, before you move your stuff into the kitchen, take the time to install lining in the cabinets. You can choose from all kinds of different patterns to suit your taste and it gives you an immediate chance to stamp your own look on your new home and to spice up an area that could possibly look tired. You can do it either by using shelf liner or decorative paper.
There are a number of ways of going about it. You can either just line the shelves or you can opt to line the sides too. If you do the bottom of the cabinets this will of course be less visible, but it will keep the cabinets cleaner and fresher, particularly as you can replace the lining if the bottom ever gets too sticky or dirty. Lining the sides makes the cupboards look cleaner and newer and will be visible every time the doors open, adding one more decorative feature to your new kitchen. Once you have decided where you want it and in what style, the easiest way to go about lining the cupboards is to find shelf liners that are self-adhesive and will not need any extra glue to fit. All you need to do is cut them down to the size of the cupboard area and then remove the backing paper, before putting them in place. It helps to remove shelves first as this allows you to fit the adhesive paper in exactly the right place.
Should you find that the self-adhesive liners are not to your taste you can always opt for decorative paper or fabrics or wallpaper, of which there is far greater choice. These materials will, by necessity involve a bit more work and you will need to find a suitable glue or adhesive but otherwise the process is simple. Depending on the wallpaper this simple process can, however, make a massive difference to the look and feel of your new kitchen.
