From finding the right day and time to deciding which items to leave behind, we all get stressed out at some point during the moving process. It’s no secret that moving can be a stressful task but after decades of experience, FlatRate knows all the tricks and tips for a smooth moving day.

Not surprisingly, it all becomes more hectic in the summertime. As the busiest moving season of the year, most people take advantage of their days off to relocate into their new homes during summer.

Luckily, there are ways to prevent or at least lessen the possibility of inconveniences on moving day. So before we start, take a breather, keep hydrated, and stay calm. FlatRate got your back!

How to Remain at Ease During Your Summer Move

Label Your Items As You Pack Them

To avoid unnecessary stress, begin packing days, if not weeks before your move. Once you’ve packed everything into their respective boxes, label them with a marker and write where it belongs in the new home. Believe it or not, unpacking can be just as much of a hassle as packing, and labeling your items will make the process much smoother.

Research Moving Services You’ll Need

Got a bad lower back or don’t know how to uninstall that 60-inch plasma TV? FlatRate offers a variety of exclusive moving services that fulfill all of your moving needs. During your free initial consultation, tell your Relocation Specialist about your special needs and we will make sure to have our IT team or moving crew ready to work when they get to your home.

Reserve Your Building Elevator In Advance

Elevator reservations can be strict depending on your building management or if another move is taking place that same day. To avoid potential issues, it is crucial to book your elevator as soon as you know your move date.

If the elevator has a strict cutoff time, request an earlier start time for your move or a second day so you can load all the items on time. If the elevator is shared, try to coordinate with the other tenant and remain organized so items don’t get lost in transport.

Get a Parking Permit

If you live in a city like New York, you know how chaotic parking can be. When it comes to parking permits, moving companies usually leave it to the customer to figure out if a parking permit is needed or not at their old and new buildings.

To avoid stress and last-minute changes, research ahead of time if you will need to get a parking permit for the moving van. If you can reserve a spot for a certain amount of time, it is best to do so as this will save time for you and your designated crew.

Get Comfortable

Even if you’re not physically lifting furniture, it’s a good idea to stay comfortable while your move is taking place. It’s likely you’re going to be going up and down the stairs to show the moving team where certain items are and helping with possible last-minute packing.

Lastly, don’t forget to offer your crew some water and snacks if possible – moving is most times an all-day job and they also need to stay hydrated.
